I would also find this featue exceedingly useful. As I mentioned in BUG 63627 which is probably a dublication of this one, I also have the same whish (I'm using KDE 3.2 on Suse 9). I think that the capability fo scheduling mail for later delivery could be implemented either in Kmail or in Korganizer. In any case it will be very usefull if it is accessible both ways. see closed [Bug 72037] command line send mail option --- Johannes Nieß <linux@johannes-niess.de> wrote: > > ------- Additional Comments From linux > johannes-niess de 2004-04-04 11:23 ------- > see closed [Bug 72037] command line send mail option Personally I disagree with the comment on bug 72037: I know that I can setup a cronjob using the mail command, but the same apply with reading mail: I can also use pine or mail. The reason from doing it from kmail it is that it is a nice mail frontend. same reason apply for mail scheduling feature; kmail could juist setup a cron entry or an entry in korganizer... it will be just the easy KDE integrated way for scheduling mails __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Great idea!! *** Bug 69243 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 109407 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Simply using a subfolder for that. Adding a new option in "Properties of folder ..." named as "Start sending at ..." with an input field for time settings. Definite a folder and all in it would be sent at time. I disagree with comment #11, not all e-mails would fit in a particular time frame. I've seen this done with Outlook, and it would require a queue / scheduler to determine when a message should be sent. I don't think this would be incredibly difficult to achieve, but has this been submitted for inclusion, or will it get caught by the feature freeze? I'd like to look into implementing it... We're already in feature list freeze for 3.5. The next release is KDE 4, unless the kdepim developers decide to make an interim release (which wouldn't be bad). this is already possible with kalarm. I wrote a patch long time ago for kalarm which made it possible to send an email at a certain time. check it out. since kalarm and kmail are in kdepim, I don't think that kmail needs this feature. I disagree with the KAlarm approach. IMO, control over when a particular message is sent should be from within the mail client. Choosing when to send a message should be on a 'per message' basis, as in, at the time of writing. I don't think I should have to open up a different application to control the sending of the message. can someone please explain to me why this feature is so useful for the majority of the users? Why not configure KMail to queue all messages by default and then send queued messages when you fell like sending them? IMO, this feature is mainly a convenience, for others I can't speak to the level of necessity. By default, I'll want to send an email right away, but maybe certain emails I'd rather have sent at a specified time. This is a feature found in Outlook (possibly others?) which I think some (apparantly many judging by votes) people use. I've only used it once or twice. I think it would be even cooler if you could set a default send delay(e.g. 1 minute). That could avoid the embarassment of sending emails that are not quite ready yet. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 191986 *** This was wrongly marked as a duplicate of a much newer and lesser known bug, Bug 191986. It should have been the other way around. *** Bug 191986 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** You can use option Send Later (form Message menu and use CRON but is not implemented in KMail2 In few months, it would be 10 years this wish has been written. Amazing that it wasn't closed or coded since then ! With this many votes, I'd say go for it and you'd make a few people happy, including me :) I implemented it in 4.11 |
