Description Nandruzh 2025-03-29 19:26:37 UTC
I installed FFmpeg on my Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ so I could export animations from Krita 5.2.9, but I can't configure it because the Android file explorer doesn't allow access to the location where FFmpeg is installed. Furthermore, the installation process on Android was complicated and tedious.

I suggest Krita comes complete on Android, with all the features out of the box without the need to install and configure additional components. Due to Google restrictions, users don't have the same level of access to the file system as on other platforms, making manual configuration of tools like FFmpeg practically impossible.

I imagine FFmpeg isn't the only thing missing from Krita to make it work 100% on Android, so integrating all the features out of the box would greatly improve the experience and make Krita more competitive with other drawing and animation apps that already come ready to use without any additional configuration.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install Krita 5.2.9 on an Android tablet.

2. Install FFmpeg manually.

3. Try configuring it in Krita to export animations.

4. Android's file explorer doesn't allow you to select the correct path.

Platform and version:

Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE+

OS: Android

Krita version: 5.2.9

Yes, Android doesn't allow that. You will have to export the video as an image sequence and then use something else to create a video. It's not a bug; it's a limitation of the operating system.
