SUMMARY
the docs at https://opensource.com/life/11/11/introduction-kdenlive describe this: 
> All of these options are accessible via the View Menu > Record Monitor.

there is no such menu and even searching in the handbook finds no Record monitor
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. click on view
2. look for Record Monitor


OBSERVED RESULT
no such monitor

EXPECTED RESULT
Record monitor to edit: 
> The configuration menu for Record Monitor should give you a choice between Firewire (dvgrab), Video4Linux (USB and, accordingly, built-in webcams on laptops), Screen Grab (via RecordMyDesktop), and even third-party capture cards. Choose the appropriate back end.

Thank you for reporting. This post is from 2011 for an outdated Kdenlive version 0.8. 

Fortunately, this function still exists with the latest Kdenlive version 24.12.2: Menu -> View -> Screen Grab. Documentation is here: https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/project_and_asset_management/capturing_video.html
