SUMMARY
Currently, if the panel is set to "always show", it will switch off of floating mode when an app is touching it or maximized. Normally this behavior is fine but I use krohnkite for tiling, and this makes the panel un-float because apps are near it. I would like to have the option of making it always float, or maybe float unless app is maximized (or both), so that I can have a more consistent look across my system and while keeping my panel visible at all times. to be clear, this issue has nothing to do with krohnkite and causes no functional issue of any importance. this was just the thing that made me want the feature. 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. set panel to "always show" and "floating"
2. move a window such that it touches the panel, then maximize it
3. observe panel behavior

OBSERVED RESULT
panel switches from floating to non-floating when touching a window or when a window is maximized

DESIRED RESULT
(assuming new setting in use) panel maintains floating status

However Plasma 6.2.5 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from KDE; supported versions are 5.27. (LTS), and 6.3 (non-LTS) or newer. Please upgrade to a supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the next one.

If you need support for Plasma 6.2.5, please contact your distribution, who bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel free to re-open this bug report.

Distro just released 6.3 update. updated sytem info is:

AFAIK this has been rejected in the past. I'll let Niccolò confirm though.

Regardless, it may be worth considering since the requests for it keep coming in. There does appear to be some demand.

I can confirm this is not something I plan to implement, and I have not really seen enough interest to reconsider for now.

How much margin are you using here? I believe we de-float if windows are 4/8px away, could increasing distance between panel and apps be an option?

I believe my current margin (from screen bottom) is like 5 pixels. Just tried and you can get the effect I was looking for with a 17 px bottom margin, so that works fine.
