*** Bug 499274 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Sorry, don't be mad, you've written a lot, but what can we do? Here digiKam runs in a variety of configurations without any problems. If you have images that you can't open, it would be good to provide one. A DebugView log can also help. Have you moved images under Windows to an HDD that you can no longer open? The first step would be to check the HDD. Are the settings of your collection still correct, are the paths correct? You could use the collection update function (round circle icon). But without any information we can't help... I'm not mad, just frustrated, mainly with myself. 1. I can't attach one of the files that I cannot open, it's too large. It can be obtained from Dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/u75yimxtah7wuthdrxoev/ACbmHqdz0s5qzNHcCnlMtwk?rlkey=ormxry2ini2boqqpg5bczf5ez&st=6zp9087q&dl=0 2. I have checked all my HDD's including the one I've moved the photos to and the files are visible and can be opened from file explorer. I cannot find any Disk errors. 3. I have used the Collection update button and it doesn't seem to make any difference. 4. As far as I can see the settings in Collections are correct, the same as they were previously. The paths are correct. 5. It seems the the problems only occur with the collection that I've moved. Last time I used the Refresh command to try and see the thumbnails digiKam was using upto 83% of the CPU resources and didn't seem to be getting anywhere. Nothing else was usable on the PC. 6. It seems that previews load quicker than the thumbnails. Hope this gives you more information. Alan Hi Alan, I have bad news for you, the DNG file in the DropBox is corrupted. It only contains 0-bytes. Maik Created attachment 177848 [details] attachment-1062905-0.html Hi Maik,Thank you When I look at the file in File Explorer it shows a size of 41779kB as do most of the other files that I can't open. After the initial problem with the files caused by the transfer from one drive to another the problem now seems to be something to do with the (my) settings for the metadata, xmp files , Exif tool.I asked a friend who has Adobe bridge/ACR to have a look at the files that open OK but take forever to show the thumbnails in digikam and some of the files have the same problem as in digikam, i.e the thumbnail doesn't show but the preview does. Those particular files won't open in ACR but will still open in digiKam editor and Affinity.I have digikam set to read from xmp files, to use xmp files that can be read by other software and metadata to be written to dng files and xmp.Until recently I have never had any problem with this and now the problems only occur on the files I moved. One question, If I use a later version of EXIF tool than the one that comes with digikam, that wouldn't cause a problem would it? I use a few older lenses that aren't recognised by my camera so I use EXIF tool GUI to write the lens details to the metadata and have done so for several years with few problems. The version I use is 13.10. Another thing I have noticed is that some files that had the thumbnails greyed or partially grey out when converted to tiff format show immediately whereas the dng files do not. My next step would seem to be to convert all the files in the affected albums to Tiff and see if that solves the problem.I've tried using a proprietary file repair app on some of the corrupt files but with no success.Thank you again, I'll let you know if changing the format where I'm able gets round the problem. It only contains 0-bytes. Maik Hi, The 8.7.0 pre-release Windows installer from today have been rebuilt from scratch with Qt 6.8.3, KDE 6.12, OpenCV 4.11 + CUDA support, Exiv2 0.28.5, ExifTool 13.27, ffmpeg 7, all image codecs updated to last version (jxl, avif, heif, aom, etc.). Please try with this version to see if your problem still reproducible... https://files.kde.org/digikam/ Thanks in advance Best regards Gilles Caulier |
