The only way to hide this button is to use it.

I personally haven't seen this but believe it can happen, can you give a bit more detail? Is this with a scrollwheel, touchpad, touchscreen etc? And is this in any timeline?

It seems to only happen on my profile page. I use a mouse scrollwheel.
