If you're talking about the third option ("écran actuel") it's about the physical screen, not the virtual desktop. Can you clarify?

Sorry I thought that the current desktop option meant : "show only the current desktop number/name on the widget itself" like it is the case for the Compact page plasmoid.
Here's a screenshot the compact pager plasmoid which provides this feature more suitable for vertical bars
