STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open any pdf document
2. add text highlight
3. try to save (cmd+s)

OBSERVED RESULT
* crash immediately

EXPECTED RESULT
* save with annotation

Just curious are you running the x86_64 because your system is x86_64 or your system is arm but the arm dmg won't work?

Oh, I both use intel mac (x86_64) and apple mac (arm). For x86_64 system I found that the intel dmg does not work. Of course the number of intel mac users are constantly decreasing but I wonder tackling this problem might help discovering some bugs.

* Arm dmg runs well on apple silicon after the patch about few weeks ago.
