SUMMARY
Since installing macOS Sequoia 15.1 it is not possible to start digiKam anymore. From all possible ways to start an application (in the App folder with Finder, from the Dock or Spotlight) I get the error message: The application "Finder/Dock/Spotlight" does not have the permission to open "(null)".
I found out after installing macOS Sequoia 15.1 with my previous version of digiKam (cannot reproduce which one that was), and the error remained after installing the latest digiKam 8.4.0. 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install macOS Sequoia 15.1
2. Run digiKam

OBSERVED RESULT
Error message The application "Finder/Dock/Spotlight" does not have the permission to open "(null)".

EXPECTED RESULT
digiKam starting up

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
macOS: Sequoia 15.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Searching on this specific error message I see that other applications struggle with this too, e.g. OpenSCAD in https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/finder-does-not-have-permission-to-open-null.2441374/
The solution there seemed to be releasing a signed version.

Problem is fixed in the pre-release version of digiKam-8.5.0. There is now a version for Apple Silicon:

I had the same problem on an Intel MacBook Pro 16 inch 2019 after upgrading to macOS 15.1. I just downloaded and installed the legacy version https://files.kde.org/digikam/legacy/digiKam-8.5.0-20241027T124153-Qt5-MacOS-x86_64.pkg and the problem still exists.

I just downloaded and installed the latest legacy version for Mac Intel https://files.kde.org/digikam/legacy/digiKam-8.6.0-20241121T055349-Qt5-MacOS-x86_64.pkg and the problem still exists.

Thank you, hopefully the solution for the Mac Silicon can be applied to the Mac Intel version.

I applied the codesign command to the digikam.app bundle and was able to open from finder.

Sorry I did not see Bug 496380 before.  I will add my comments there.
