SUMMARY
Randomly when hovering over menu categories the applications will flash visible then disappear. Sometimes after a few minutes the menu returns to normal operation.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Hover over various menu categories 

OBSERVED RESULT
Menu applications disappear from menu

EXPECTED RESULT
Menu applications should remain visible for selection

What the heck.

Does it happen on Wayland too, or only X11? I suspect it'll be both, but best to know for sure.

Whatever was causing this in our OS has cleared itself. I have no idea why.  Really really odd. Maybe it just needed to be slapped around a bit. :-D
