SUMMARY
When using the system monitor widget inside a plasma panel, the title of the sensors randomly gets cut off despite there being enough place to display it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a Plasma panel.
2. Add a system monitor widget to it.
3. Make it text only and rename it to "CPU".

OBSERVED RESULT
The "CPU" name periodically gets shortened to "C..." even though there is plenty enough space to display "CPU".

EXPECTED RESULT
"CPU" is displayed.

This looks like the same kind of issue as bug 488816. If so, it should be fixed in Plasma 6.2
Can you please update Plasma on your system to 6.2 and see if the sensor text still appears elided? Thanks!
Comment 3 Mathis Paquet 2024-10-28 23:26:27 UTC
This issue still occurs on Plasma 6.2
Comment 4 TraceyC 2024-10-29 01:29:10 UTC
Thanks for re-testing. I'm not able to reproduce easily on git-master. I'd like to make sure I've set up a sensor and panel in the exact same way as you have.
Can you please share screenshots of the System Monitor Sensor Settings - Appearance and Sensors Details?

Also, what is the height and other settings for the panel you have the widget on?

Thanks!

Comment 8 Mathis Paquet 2024-10-29 15:24:18 UTC
I have added screenshots of my configuration. Panel height is 36 and there are 3 sensors centered on the bottom panel. Sometimes, all the names (CPU, RAM and GPUs) are being correctly displayed, but depending on the percentage value that is displayed, they can get cut off.
Comment 9 TraceyC 2024-10-29 21:49:44 UTC
Thanks for the additional details and the screenshots. They make what you're seeing clear.
Notably, I see spacers on either side of the middle part of the panel, where the sensor widgets are.

Using your panel and sensor settings, I am able to reproduce this in Plasma 6.1.5 but not in 6.2.2 or in git-master

There has been bug fixing regarding panels, spacers and widget display. It looks like this issue has also been fixed. If you still experience this bug in 6.2.2 or later, please feel free to reopen this report. Thanks!
Comment 10 Mathis Paquet 2024-11-27 15:31:26 UTC
I still have the issue on Plasma 6.2.4. I don't know if I need to make a brand new panel for it to get fixed or something, but I added a new sensor on my existing panel and it behaves the same way as the others.
Comment 11 TraceyC 2024-12-12 19:06:41 UTC
Are you able to reproduce the same problem with a new user and the same panel setup?
