Might it make sense to use a Trash widget for this use case, rather than a file-based trash? If I do that in desktop folder mode then my apps and files appear over it instead of wrapping, it was the first thing I tried. Right, I see what you mean. It's tricky. What you propose could be used to resolve this issue, but it would be a DIY thing that I suspect no one else would use, and the codepath would probably bit-rot over time. It's a legitimate issue but I'm not sure your proposal is the best way to fix it. I'm going to mark this as CONFIRMED and change the title to be a bit more generic.
