Actually this crash/hanging issue doesn't seem related to changing the default monitor. Something seems to have changed in the last update which means it will crash the next time I run it. So the sequence seems to be: 1) Launch Kdenlive 2) Import a video clip 3) Double click on the Project Monitor tab to expand the preview and play the video on my 2nd monitor 4) Quit and restart Kdenlive 5) Now it just hangs after the splash screen 6) I have to try running again, at which point it asks me if I want to reset the configuration back to default So it doesn't matter about the first 2 steps I originally reported, the crash always happens after quitting and restarting Kdenlive. This never happened before the update. Could something have changed related to using multiple monitors? At the moment Kdenlive is unusable for me. More investigation - I reset everything and then set it all up again. It could be related to either a custom Workspace which I've adjusted or changing my Favorite effects (star button) in the menu. As soon as I change these things it usually crashes on restart and I have to set it all up again. So some combination of these things: 1) Edit Favorites (star button) to add some favorite effects 2) Change the Workspace and save it as a custom one 3) Import a video clip 4) Double click on the Project Monitor tab to make it fullscreen 5) Restart Then it usually crashes the next time you open Kdenlive - sorry I can't narrow it down exactly but it's something to do with this combination! After even more experimenting it looks like the crash happens simply after double clicking the Project Monitor pane to make the video fullscreen and then quitting Kdenlive while leaving the video preview at fullscreen. Then if I relaunch Kdenlive will hang. So you can ignore the previous steps reported, this seems to replicate it every time: 1) Launch Kdenlive and import any video clip. 2) Double click the Project Monitor pane so that the video preview goes to fullscreen (on my external monitor in my case). 3) Quit Kdenlive (while preview window is still on fullscreen) and relaunch 4) Kdenlive hangs at the splash screem. I then have to launch again at which point it tells me 'Kdenlive crashed on last startup. Do you want to reset the configuration file?' Could it be that Kdenlive is trying to remember the last monitor it was maximised on and this is causing the crash? |
Created attachment 173270 [details] KdenliveRC file SUMMARY Changing default monitor in Settings for fullscreen preview from 'Auto' to a specific monitor causes a crash on next launch and loses all settings. This only started happening in latest update (24.08.0) STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Go to: Settings>Configure Kdenlive>Playback>Monitor for fullscreen output 2. Change default display from 'Auto' to 'Monitor #1' (my preferrred choice for fullscreen output on a 3 monitor system) 3. Add a video clip to project 4. Play at fullscreen (double click Project Monitor tab to expand to fullscreen) 5. Exit Kdenlive 6. Restart Kdenlive 7. Splash screen appears but then goes away and nothing happens 8. Try to launch again and get 'Kdenlive crashed on last startup. Do you want to reset the configuration file?' - I have to reset or it won't launch an gives save message until I reset configuration. 9. Eventually works but have lost all my settings. OBSERVED RESULT Kdenlive crashes on next launch and I lose all my settings. EXPECTED RESULT Kdenlive shouldn't crash.
