After installing the snap "sudo snap install --classic kate" I am unable to open a file or folder without the program immediately crashing. I have tried the recent 24.05.2 both stable and edge channels, as well as the 24.08.0 candidate. All behave the same.  Oddly when I look at the version of Kate from inside the program I see 24.11.70. I would have expect it to be the same as that listed for the snap (e.g. 24.05.2). The previously installed 23 snap worked fine, though it no longer seems to be available.  I can install form a .deb and get version 21.12.3 which does seem to allow me to open files and folders just fine though it would be nice to use the newer versions of Kate as I had been doing previous to the switch to version 24.

I am running on Ubuntu 22.0.4.4 (Jammy jellyfish).

Thanks, I didn't make the connection to that bug being the same issue. On a related note, is it possible to keep older snaps? Would love to keep using the 23 version that was OK, but that snap seems to have disappeared and only 24 versions remain. Is this something that is within your control to adjust how many versions back snaps are kept, or does this have more to do with the Ubuntu snap store side of things?
