SUMMARY
Unchecking the "Enable notification sounds" checkbox in the System Sounds settings tab has no effect.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to Systems settings => Colors & Themes (!) => System Sounds
2. Uncheck "Enable notification sounds", and click "Apply"
3. Do something wrong.

OBSERVED RESULT
Beep

EXPECTED RESULT
Silence

Can you be specific about what this means? What wrong thing in what app? Is it a GTK app, and are you, for example pressing backspace or delete in an empty text field?

It was in a WINE application, so that would be GTK. I was trying to type when no text field was active.
Firefox complained at some point as well, I can't remember why.

Got it. So it's the horrible GTK beep! The good news is that as of Plasma 6.2, we intercept these and transform them into nice sounds that do respect the notification sounds setting (as well as the system volume level…).
