You can test this by running the latest KDE Neon iso (neon-user-20240801-0717) in a live usb, defloating the panel, and then logging out of the plasma session (from which the live usb will automatically log you back in). I'm not sure if the bug occurs on all monitor resolutions or sizes, just ones with fractional scaling, or just ones with weird aspect ratios (e.g. my 3:2 2256x1504 monitor) Seems like it's more likely a GPU driver issue or a KWin transparency/blur effect issue. Moving to KWin for further investigation. |
Created attachment 172315 [details] The bug: visual artifacts on the panel SUMMARY On my 2256x1504 display, choosing a non-floating panel causes the transparency effect of the panel to slightly break by having a strange visual artifact visible on it. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Switch panel from floating mode to non-floating via the Panel Configuration 2. Reboot computer 3. Observe artifact OBSERVED RESULT There is a visual artifact on the panel as pictured in the linked image EXPECTED RESULT The panel looks more like the second screenshot, where the transparency looks clear and correct SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20240803 KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.4.0 Qt Version: 6.7.2 Kernel Version: 6.10.2-1-default (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 16 × 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1240P Memory: 31.1 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® Graphics Manufacturer: Framework Product Name: Laptop (12th Gen Intel Core) System Version: A4 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION To temporarily hide the visual artifact, floating and defloating the panel works. I don't know of a consistent way to cause the bug apart from rebooting or restarting Plasma, but I'll update this report if I do find one.
