Version:           1.1.3 (using KDE KDE 3.0.3)
Installed from:    RedHat RPMs

In RH8 and KDE3.0.3, konsole does not correctly displays the screen. For example, select any font like cour, list directories or clear screen, it messes up the screen with dots and lines all parts of the screen.

Reset or tput reset usually clears screen though.

This is maybe due to RedHat changing Qt's font-support. 
Can anyone test with an unpatched Qt version?

Probably caused by broken font handling and probably fixed (t.i. worked around)  in konsole from 
current CVS.
