SUMMARY
My desktop background is set as a wallpaper slideshow. However, after I login, the default Plasma Wallpaper (Scarlet tree) is shown for a second. Then, the slideshow starts. Scarlet tree is NOT part of the slideshow feed, so it shouldn't appear. This happens both in Wayland and X11. It didn't happen in Plasma 5.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set a wallpaper slideshow.
2. Log out & log in.

OBSERVED RESULT
The default Plasma 6 wallpaper is shown for a second when the desktop appears, right before the slideshow starts.

EXPECTED RESULT
The slideshow should start right away.

I can't reproduce this in current git master. Does is still happen for you in Plasma 6.2.4 or later?

It does, but now it's the default wallpaper for 6.2 that sneaks in!

However, it's very inconsistent. Most times it doesn't happen, but sometimes I do get the default wallpaper for one or two seconds before the slideshow kicks in.

If you have set a slideshow just to try to reproduce this bug, can I ask you to stick with it for a few days? As I said, if I had only tested it once, chances are I wouldn't have seen it either.

I logged in four or five times in a row, and finally caught the bug in video. This time the default wallpaper is shown for less than a second, but many times I've had it stay longer, for one or two seconds.

I have the same issue on all computers. It's very visible with a slideshow of dark wallpapers as the initial wallpaper is really bright.

The time during which the default wallpaper is visible is maybe affected by the transition time between wallpapers which is changed with the global animation speed.
