Normal Looking Panel Background

SUMMARY
When you change the panel settings / go into edit mode the panel background looks weird for the system tray area, like it is getting thinner.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Rightlick the panel
2. Click Show panel configuration

OBSERVED RESULT
The panel background looks weird for the system tray area, like it is getting thinner.

EXPECTED RESULT
The panel background looks uniform across the entire panel in edit mode

What you're seeing is intentional; it's a feature called Margin Separator and it allows the widgets on the right side of the panel to have a higher margin compared to the left side. Thus, what you're seeing is the difference in margin. You can remove the widget separator or move it around in edit mode, you just have to drag and drop the part where the panel becomes thinner.
