SUMMARY
If you are opening a text file in Kate via "Recent Documents and Projects" the cursor will stick to being a pointer and will not change into a text selection cursor when hovering over text.

If you open a text file via the "Open file" button the cursor will change when hovering over text.

See the attached videos for examples.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a text file in in Kate via "Recent Documents and Projects"
2. Move the cursor over text

OBSERVED RESULT
The cursor will stick to being a pointer and will not change into a text selection cursor

EXPECTED RESULT
The cursor changes into a text selection cursor

I can not reproduce that, can you try the latest release?

It still happens on Kate 24.08. Can also reproduce it on my laptop which is using an Intel iGPU in case this is somehow related  to GPU stuff. The laptop is also running EndeavourOS / Arch.

Checked agian and the issue manifests slightly different with Kate 24.08:

When I open the file via "Recent Documents and Projects" the cursor will still stick to being a pointer and will not change into a text selection cursor initially. But when I move it out of the text area (e.g. to the menu bar) and back into the text area the cursor then changes.

When I use the "Open file" button the cursor changes right away.
