SUMMARY

Regression performance in benchmarks (Shadow of the Tomb Raider native Linux and Cyberpunk 77 via proton) while using Wayland: around 8 to 10% after upgrading to plasma 6.1.

Those 2 benchs were on par with X11 on Plasma 6.0, now they are 10% slower...

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Bench SOTB on Wayland Plasma 6.1: ~275 fps
2. Bench SOTB on Wayland Plasma 6.0: ~300 fps
3. Bench SOTB on x11 Plasma 6.1: ~300 fps

STEPS EXECUTED TO MITIGATE THE PERFORMANCE LOSS:
1. Disabled Triple buffering via env variable ( KWIN_DRM_DISABLE_TRIPLE_BUFFERING=1 ) and reboot => Performance issue still here
2. Disabled screen tearing in Display settings => Performance issue still here
3. Disabled ICC color settings => Performance issue still here
4. Switched to a different kernel version => Performance issue still here

Can you observe the same with NVidia driver 550? This sounds like a regression caused by explicit sync

Good call. I should have written in the bug report that I used a patched version of kwin which included the explicit sync patch.
