I have a laptop with a single screen connected via DisplayPort.
When I use only the laptop screen and select "Switch to External Screen" in the Display Configuraion menu in the System Tray, both screens turn black. The system panel disappears and the wallpaper changes to black color (see the demonstration in the attachment).

SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a laptop with the external screen connected
2. Activate only the laptop screen in the display configuration and deactivate the external screen
3. Select "Switch to external screen" in the Display Configuration of the System Tray 

OBSERVED RESULT
The desktop is not switched to the external screen.
The Plasma Panel disappears from the desktop, the wallpaper changes to the black color.

EXPECTED RESULT
The desktop is switched to the external screen.
The laptop screen is deactivated.
The plasma desktop remains functional.

This is fixed in Plasma 6.1.
