The camera filter function works without any problems. Create a new filter, use the mimetype filter, select the file types you only want to import. The important thing is to select your filter in the main view in the status bar. It may be that I have created them in the wrong place "Cameras -> Import Filter". Please try again, also use a newer digiKam version, there were some bug fixes in 8.0.0 regarding the import filters. There may have been further bug fixes later. Add the filter with “+ Add”. I checked it again here with digiKam-8.4.0 under Windows, it works as expected. However, the filters I have created do not appear in the status bar filter option. The title says "Running Filters at Download". The last image in comment 9 is correct. Now you just have to select your filter in the status bar in the ComboBox in the import view. The camera import filter that we suggest only applies during import with the import tool. Ok, glad we were able to clear it up. To explain again, the camera filter filters the import tool view so that only desired files are physically copied. With mimetype filter, digiKam ignores the file types marked with a "-" that are otherwise known to digiKam in the database. Physically, they are still present in the file system, they are just no longer displayed in digiKam.
