SUMMARY
I am using wayland session. 
If I launch firefox from the shell, it launch in Wayland mode, no issue.
I then pin it in the task manager widget, close firefox and launch it from the pinned icon;
it will run in X11 mode

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. launch firefox, insure is in Wayland mode (about:support -> Window Protocol)
2. pin firefox to the task manager in the "standard panel"
3. close firefox
4. launch firefox from the pinned icon

OBSERVED RESULT
Window Protocol report X11

EXPECTED RESULT
Window Protocol report Wayland

Adding the x11-only keyword

That means there's something about the desktop file you pinned that made the app run in X11-only mode. There's no Task Manager code that would be forcing this.
