plasma search settings in 6.1.3 |
They are grouped in Plasma 6.1. As for priority, you can adjust this yourself to suit your tastes in System Settings > Search > Plasma Search. Created attachment 172238 [details]
plasma search settings in 6.1.3
I tried Plasma Search settings but it doesn't give you full control of search result order. You can see in the attachment that I can only control "Applications" and "System Settings" group. No matter how you sort them, they will still be shown below "Browser History" and "File Search". My problem is still not solved.
I see here is a "Favorite Plugins" things. Favorite plugins are pinned at top of settings. You can sort them but Favorite Plugins don't have higher priority than other plugins, that is strange. For non-favorite plugins, here is no way to sort them. So I am confused. What is the purpose of "Favorite Plugins" if their search results are not preferred? To correct previous comment: If you upgrade from 6.0 to 6.1 without changing Plasma Search settings previously, you will see what I saw as in the attachment: 1. "Applications" and "System Settings" plugins are marked as favorite. 2. However, this configuration doesn't take effect and you cannot click the "Apply" button since it is disabled. 3. You have to manually change something to save the configuration. This is very confusing. > So I am confused. What is the purpose of "Favorite Plugins" if their search results are not preferred?
They are supposed to be preferred and shown first. This is working for me. I guess somehow it's broken for you?
Hi, Similar example : if you set applications at the highest level and then you have system config below this happens : When you type "thunder", it is thunderbolt how shows first and not "thunderbird" Personally I use one way more than the other. I > guess somehow it's broken for you? It's also broken for me (Plasma 6.2.4), the order of plugins saved in Settings is not honored. See the bug I just filed: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=498383 Not sure if to mark one of these as a duplicate? I guess this here is actually two bugs (group search results, solved) and the other one - duplicate *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 489866 *** |
Created attachment 168041 [details] screenshot of search result of "about" SUMMARY When people searching things in Kickoff, they are more likely to search applications, instead of browser bookmarks STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Kickoff launcher 2. Search "about" 3. See the search result OBSERVED RESULT A lot of bookmarks and files appear first. kinfocenter (About System) is very hard to find, you have to scroll down several times. EXPECTED RESULT Search result should be grouped, I suggested showing search result in such order: 1. applications (yeah, because it is an application launcher!) 2. files 3. bookmarks and browser history (usually users search bookmarks or history in browser) SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20240329 KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0 Qt Version: 6.6.3 Kernel Version: 6.8.1-1-default (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics Manufacturer: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.
