Description colesen 2002-09-19 07:10:11 UTC
Version: 2.0 (using KDE 3.0.3)
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.3 2.96-110)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-10

I wish for Kate to support a learning mode similar to that supported by the OpenVMS tpu editor.
Say you are editing a file for which you need to do the same editing sequence many times. For example, you may want to put all occurences of a particular word on a line by itself and append some text already in the cut/paste buffer. Such repetive editing can be tedious asis. With the OpenVMS tpu editor you do the following
- enter learning mode (in TPU by pressing F12 and typing learn).
- do one instance of the editing (to allow the editor to record the sequence).
- exit learning mode (in TPU by pressing press ctrl-R followed by a key to be assigned to the execution of the sequence).
- now to repeat the editing sequence just activate the learned sequence (in TPU by pressing the chosen key).

I have a similar idea: how about automatic typeahead like in konqueror for urls, but for recognized words in the source code. just make a list of words while the user is editing the file, so that once you typed "VeryLongVariableName", next you just type "Very..." and it automatically exents to that word.

regards,
HD

@Hans Dembinski: This wordcompletion is already available as plugin, you just have to turn it on (can be found in the editorpart plugin section).
