When I e.g. put "firefox" in the search field of Discover and hit Enter, it finds 191 applications. In my opinion of which 189 really not relevant at all.
I would expect to see listed:
- Firefox (of the distro - Neon User) not listed
- Firefox snap - listed in Discover 5.27.10 but not in Neon Unstable
- Firefox flatpak - listed
- Firefox ESR - not listed at all.
I also tried with random other programs and the results where also almost all the time not as expected.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. put "firefox" in the search field of Discover
2. hit Enter 

OBSERVED RESULT
Discover produces a rather long and bizarre line of results

EXPECTED RESULT
Discover shows relevant results of the query

Oh, I forgot to mention: I just use the default repositories of the (Neon) distribution(s). I did not change anything in de sources.list or so.

On KDENeonDeveloper, as of full updates on 23 Jan 2024, I observe the following:

1. Open Discover
2. Enter "firefox" in search box

Result:

Eight items are returned from the search, in this order:
1. Firefox browser (Flatpak)

and seven others, Bleachbit, uGet, GSConnect, MozillaVPN, Firefox and Thunderbird Archive, KDocker, Datcord.

It appears some progress has been made in improving search on Discover.

My system:

KDENeonDeveloper, fully updated as of 23 Jan 2024, afternoon GMT zone,
running in a VM under Gnome Boxes on Ubuntu 22.04, with guest running in X11 session.

Discover version 6.0.80
KDE Frameworks 5.240.0
Qt 6.6.1 (built agains 6.6.1)

On my Neon Unstable box I get exactly the same list as you do. But still the only relevant search result is Firefox flatpak. But because it's based on Ubuntu imho there should be a snap package in the list and it's really strange that the Neon-deb is not in the list. 
The other search results are not at all helpful and not relevant.

Yes, there have been some improvements for Plasma 6.

Unfortunately what you're asking for is not really possible; the system can't read your mind and know that you'd like it to hide all the search results that match the keyword "firefox" somehow but aren't the Firefox app. As such, this is about as fixed as we can do for now.

The .deb package doesn't appear in the list because Neon deliberately hides apps that come from distro repos. This is a Neon packaging decision, not something that comes from Discover.
