STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open a text file with Kate
2. right-click on Kate icon
3. 

OBSERVED RESULT
"Recent files" section of the context menu does not exist or it exists but the text file used in the step 1 is not listed

EXPECTED RESULT
"Recent files" feature works.

Can reproduce with Kolourpaint too.

Which Kate Icon are you right-clicking on whose context menu is missing the recent files? Can you attach a screenshot?

Also there is no recent document when I right-click Kate in the task manager.

Ah, this is Bug 478397, which is fixed in time for RC1.

And it is working for me with today's git master; all recent files show up as expected in the context menus in Kickoff and Task Manager.

Also it works for me after setting "Remember opened documents" to "For all applications" in "Recent Files" KCM. :)
