kdeconnect-symbolic also has a gear. That's probably the major issue. Yeah, the gear is the major issue. But also I feel that in the symbolic version, the "phone outline", with a small white bar at the top, doesn't look like a modern smartphone. The non-symblolic version, which is just a black box, is more like one. This appears to have been fixed in KDE Frameworks 6.14, about a month ago.
