Hi, thank you for your report! The random order is designed to do what its name implies -- randomly selecting a wallpaper. If you are unsatisfied with this ordering, there are many other orderings available, including by name, and by modification date. You could also manually select the wall paper we want. Thank you for taking the time to consider my perspective. However, it seems there may have been a misunderstanding of my initial point. I acknowledge that I could have articulated my suggestion more effectively. The reason behind my request is my frequent collection of new images for use as wallpaper. To ensure visual cohesion, I often adjust these images using GIMP to match the resolution of my screen. I enjoy having a continuous, randomized slideshow of my collected images, and when I acquire a new image, I would like to preview how it appears within the slideshow automation. While I could manually select the new image, it becomes challenging to ascertain whether it is displayed in the same manner as the slideshow automation would present it. Additionally, this manual process requires me to go back and re-select the slideshow feature. I would like to suggest a potential solution for this feature by incorporating a button within the Slideshow GUI. This button could facilitate the copying of a selected picture into one of the designated directories from which pictures are drawn. Subsequently, the chosen picture would be automatically set to appear next in the slideshow. This approach eliminates the necessity for additional code to determine if a new file has been added. The recently added image would be duplicated into the user-selected folder, allowing them to assess it in the same manner as the slideshow would present it. Given that the slideshow involves size adjustments to the pictures through stretching or cropping, having the ability to preview each newly added image becomes particularly beneficial. Thanks again for considering this feature, I am sure there are others who also collect interesting images to add to a large collection of wallpapers. Makes sense, maybe one simple way to do this is just to preview whichever wallpaper is selected, i.e., just use the selected one as the current wallpaper. How do you feel about changing this feature request to adding some UI to preview wallpapers or just temporarily using a wallpaper on click/selection? That seems pretty generally applicable, and I think also solves your problem. Yes, as long as the wallpaper is presented in the same way that Slideshow would present it this would work for me. After you choose a wallpaper, I guess from a pallet of available wallpapers. Would it would show for a time then the next random one would replace it? Or perhaps... In the Slideshow UI there is a button that says "Audition an image" - this would bring up a standard file dialog to pick an image file. The image file would be 'modified' in all the same ways that Slideshow is set for and displayed with a small "Yes" or "No" dialog box (or verbiage that would be correct for the function) If the user chooses "Yes" the file is copied to a image source directory. If "No" is selected the next random wallpaper is displayed and operations resume. This would allow one to see if the prospective wallpaper fits well and then choose to copy it into rotation. If not then the user could manually modify the image and then audition it again. From History: Summary Was: Feature Request: Add option for previewing wallpaper Changed to: Allow slideshow wallpapers to be previewed in the same way as static image wallpapers can be previewed ============================================================================================================== I would like to reiterate that the previewed image should be displayed in the same manner as Slideshow would show it because Slideshow has several options to scale, crop, stretch, tile, or center the image. The purpose of this feature is to ensure that when the changes chosen for Slideshow are applied to the image it does not degrade the image or cause important details to be hidden/cropped. I did check the static "Image" wallpaper type and it also has a Positioning pull down. Just in case this one and the one in Slideshow are set differently please use the choice in Slideshow. |
