The icon is showing you that no notifications will be shown, which is in fact what will happen when the Notification service not available. :)

The root cause of this issue is of course that your notification service isn't available. Let's see if we can figure out why. Have you by any chance installed any 3rd-party notification services such as dunst or mako? Can you see if either of them are installed?
Comment 2 Jinu 2023-10-25 00:14:39 UTC
Hi Nate, no I have not had any 3rd party notification services installed. The funny thing is I didn't have this issues a couple of releases ago.
I think this issue started popping around August of this year.
Comment 3 Nate Graham 2023-10-25 20:46:11 UTC
What happens if you click on the icon?
Comment 4 Jinu 2023-10-25 21:16:13 UTC
When I click on it, it just says notification service not available. Also, the do not disturb option is greyed out.

Thanks.
Comment 6 Jinu 2023-10-27 16:07:06 UTC
Hi Nate, just wanted to know if there's any update on this or maybe a fix in plasma 6?
Comment 7 Nate Graham 2023-10-27 16:21:52 UTC
The issue needs further investigation, and as you can see by the fact that no one did it in the past 24 hours, resources are rather limited. I'm afraid you may need to adjust your expectations here; see also https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Issue_Reporting#Have_realistic_expectations.
Comment 8 Nate Graham 2025-01-15 19:02:47 UTC
Is this still happening in a recent version of Plasma, like 6.2.5 or later?
