SUMMARY
***
I'd like to import only few raw photos (more than 60mb each) from camera with hundreds of similar shots.
I like ability to view Full Screen or Preview of photo in Import module to check sharpness and details.
But when I've returned to list view my previous selection is cleared.

I'd like to have
- checkbox for import which state is kept. Or
- ability to rate photos using 1-5 or Pick and then Download with some rating or Pick flag.
- ability to Select with some rating or Pick

You have similar Lock toggle, but in Full Screen view there is no Lock state visible and purpose of this flag is different, as I suppose.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Import - Usb storage devices
2. Select 2nd, 3rd photos in Thumbnails view
3. Enter Full Screen and check details
4. Return to Thumbnails

OBSERVED RESULT

Selection is cleared. I have to start select photos from scratch.

EXPECTED RESULT

Selection is kept

A selection while retaining the existing selected images is possible in the import preview. You just have to hold down the CTRL key every time you make a selection. This is actually the usual way any file manager works.

No. I know about CTRL selection. And it doesn't work when enter to Full Screen and return. I'm talking about different way.

and there is no way to select photos for import in Full Screen mode - there is no checkbox or other visible checkbox

You can specify in the digiKam camera settings that the preview bar remains activated in full screen mode in the preview. Here you can select images with CTRL + mouse, and the selected image will also be displayed. When returning from the full screen and using ESC from the preview, the selection is retained.

I can understand that you want to pre-select large RAW files, but the intended workflow is to download the images into digiKam. Because then you have filter options and also the light table to compare the sharpness of images.

I told about Full Screen. not Preview mode.
Yes I want to download only 2-3 photos from series of 50. And digiKam or LrC allows me to select only 2-3 from the very beginning (unlike darktable for instance) - and it's fine, I don't want to download all of them. Because I can see composition and pose of the object in Full Screen mode (not preview) without any lighttables and filters.

Why are you pushing me to do, what is not needed? It's enough to place checkbox (which is intuitively retained unlike CTRL selection) in Full Screen how it works in LrC.
Or

Also there is another workaround
Rate photos in Import - Full Screen mode using keyboard 1-5 or Ctrl+1-5
After sort items by Rating and select only rated for Download

I can do this using mouse, but couldn't find a way to use it using keyboard in Import module - it would be much more convenient - navigate using arrows, rate by 1-5 and then download only rated photos.
