Is it too small in other apps as well? If not, which other apps does it look correct in, and can you then comment on what scaling (if any) settings you're using? I use opensuse Tumbleweed with Wayland. Screen has 3840x2160 and I put the scaling on 150%. I add a screenshot. Indeed, Dolphin has similar font isze, but I read less text in Dolphin. In konsole, I increased font size. Created attachment 162104 [details]

It sounds like ultimately you might be better satisfied with a higher scale factor overall, and then you won't have to adjust the font size in any apps. Can you give that a try? It's also possible for you to change the global font size in System Settings, which NeoChat will respect. Dear Bug Submitter, This bug has been in NEEDSINFO status with no change for at least 15 days. Please provide the requested information as soon as possible and set the bug status as REPORTED. Due to regular bug tracker maintenance, if the bug is still in NEEDSINFO status with no change in 30 days the bug will be closed as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME due to lack of needed information. Thank you for helping us make KDE software even better for everyone! This is something I want to do. I even opened a MR some times ago: https://invent.kde.org/network/neochat/-/merge_requests/802 For me, Neochat's little font size, on a 24" FullHD screen, is quite uncomfortable to use, and on the laptop (15.6" FullHD) it's directly unusable, and I don't have any particular eyesight disease so I'd bet there's a bunch of other people having the same problem. I'd definitely give this feature some kind of priority (it's been two years since this basic feature was requested) because I'm pretty sure there're many users stuck with this problem. (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #8) > See Comment 4. Hi, Nate. I'd like to respectfully say that your suggestion to increase the global scale factor makes (IMHO) little sense because you don't need the same font size in every application: you could require a smaller font size in e.g. a file manager in which you need space to organize things, and require a bigger font size in an app in which you have to read and write for some amount of time. Robert Riemann already told you in Comment 2. I've changed the status of the issue to Confirmed following the guidelines (I apologise if I made a mistake: I have moderated expertise with this platform), because, if my experience and testing (I've spent some time playing with global scale) are of any help, I can confirm you that increasing global scale factor if not a solution to this problem. It doesn't make any more sense now than it did then, sorry. Text that's too small to comfortably read when there's a lot of it doesn't become more readable when there isn't as much of it. The pain or irritation of reading uncomfortably small text may be diminished when there's less of it, but the fact remains that it's still to small to comfortably read, and the solution is the same: make *all* the text on the system large enough to comfortably read by using the global scaling or font size settings. You have already pointed that: the pain and eyesight wear of reading less amount of small text is smaller than the pain and eyesight wear of reading a great amount of small text. There's little discussion on that regard, and that argument alone is solid enough to defend my posture. About 95% (being conservative) of the apps designed for reading moderate to big amount of text, even on mobile devices, allows you to change the font size or in-app scaling, so users are going to open Neochat preferences looking for that option, I can assure you that. Trying to force them to rescale the whole system for just an app is quite weird and, moreover, is a decision that should lie with the users. *** Bug 489042 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 455938 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** |
