If Baloo is started with content indexing, it is not possible to see how long the process is still running without having to constantly check the system settings. 

For this reason, a small application that is visible in the taskbar and shows the status in percentage would be helpful. In addition, you could offer a search window with one click.

This is background activity that the user shouldn't have to care about. Notifications about this kind of thing are generally perceived as annoying and make the system seem needy. So thanks for the idea, but I don't think we'll be implementing this, sorry!

Agreed :-)

Maybe as something that plugs into system monitor with options to show the status (possibly framed as how much indexing still to go) and CPU load.

There *are* still cases where baloo goes away and thinks hard for a long while, if you are content indexing and delete a shedload of files for example. Trouble is that this work is hidden at the moment (you can see files being indexed but not removed from the index)
