Description Henning 2023-08-29 17:33:12 UTC
Opening several PDFs opens Windows. This clutters the same taskbar and also is some sort of a UI difference from other KDE apps that open Tabs.

Tab support would really be great in Okular, for efficiency. First maybe starting with a setting opt-in?

benefits:
- less cluttered application bar
- grouped PDFs, opening mutiple ones uses Tabs, but opening single ones would use a window?
- easy switching without needing the "grouped windows" mode in the panel

drawbacks:
- space
- maybe inconsistent behavior what to group and what not

Okular does already have opt-in tab support. You have to enable it in the Settings window. IIRC enabling it by default is blocked by making tabs detachable somehow; see Bug 339971.

Also tabs don't work very well on Windows, but that bug is already filed.
