STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Preview mode.
2.  Select the first photo in the album
3.  for(;;) {
4.  Click on Image Editor
5.  Sometimes do a free rotation
6.  Select the actual image from the overscan.  Crop to selection.
7.  Color correct (usually Auto Exposure, sometimes Auto Levels, sometimes Curves, occasionally cancel).
8. Click on Save Changes and immediately Close Editor.
9.  Delete the original.  Move to the next image.

OBSERVED RESULT
Occasionally the save will hang at 99% complete (seems to be a complete save, but that's where the progress bar stops.)  The hang does not appear to resolve on its own if it lasts more than a few seconds.  Digikam has to be force closed and restarted.

EXPECTED RESULT
No hang.

Image is saved in which format ?

Did you use versioning ?

Which kind of database did you use ?

Which kind of image format is edited ?

This problem still reproducible with the new digiKam 8.2.0 pre-release Windows
installer available at usual place:

https://files.kde.org/digikam/

This new bundle is based on last Qt framework 5.15.11 and KDE framework 5.110.

This crash is not reproducible with digiKam compiled under Windows with
VCPKG. digiKam 8.2.0 pre-release installer is here :
