Also crashes if I press the cancel button on the file download pop up

I can't reproduce the problem, please try the digiKam-8.1.0 final release from the official download:

https://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/8.1.0/

https://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/8.1.0/digiKam-8.1.0-Win64.exe

OK I can run digiKam and cancel the face engine download and get to the digikam main screen. Then after 2 seconds, it crashes.
Comment 4 Mike New 2023-07-07 22:18:09 UTC
So I guess it is not to do with Face Engine

I'm on Windows 11 Home
OS Build 22621.1848

It will crash when scanning images. Do you have *.AVIF files in your collection?

Otherwise create a DebugView (Microsoft program) log, maybe we can identify which file it crashes on.
The creation of the DebugView log is described here:

https://www.digikam.org/contribute/

Don't forget to set the Qt-Debug variable in the Windows environment variable editor.

I installed 8.1 and it still crashes after 5 seconds on start up.
Comment 7 Maik Qualmann 2023-07-11 06:07:13 UTC
Please try to create the DebugView log so we can get closer to the cause.

@Mike,

This problem still reproducible with the new digiKam 8.2.0 pre-release Windows
installer available at usual place:

https://files.kde.org/digikam/

This new bundle is based on last Qt framework 5.15.11 and KDE framework 5.110.

Thanks in advance

@Mike,

The new digiKam 8.2.0 pre-release Windows installer is online. This one is
built with VCPKG + MSVC toolchain and Qt6. It's a native version compiled under
Windows 10. File is here:

https://files.kde.org/digikam/

Please test and report to see if problem remain.

Best regards
