STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Insert a Clip
2. Insert "Wipe - Iris Box"
3. Play

OBSERVED RESULT
Preview "broken" - then crash

EXPECTED RESULT
Effect "Iris Box"

I could reproduce something like your picture, but only when changing the monitor preview resolution to something lower than 1:1. 
Can you check if you have set a lower preview resolution:

I have 1:1 all the time. The other resolutions crash as well.
