I can't reproduce this issue on 23.04.1, I get search results when searching for the Tokodon account for instance. Can you please try the Flatpak from Flathub?

Also, which server are you trying to use (if you can disclose that information)? If it's not vanilla Mastodon, that might be causing issues.
