SUMMARY

In the version prior to Spectacle 23.04, I could hold down the Alt key and I'd see an underline appear on the GUI interface so that I could see which key to press to activate the button.

For example, if I wanted to activate the Save button, I'd hold down the Alt key and then see that S was underlined in the Save button. Easy and consistent with other KDE/Qt software.

With the new 23.04 version, that has been removed. Through experimentation, I have found that the equivalent is (was always?) Ctrl+S. So I can retrain myself to press Ctrl-S to save my screenshots, which at least I'm happy that possibility exists.

Strangely, in the Configure... -> Shortcuts tab, there is no shortcut for Ctrl-S. Can this hidden keyboard shortcut at least be made configurable in the Shortcuts interface? Or is this the interface for the global desktop shortcuts? And if so, could Spectacle gain the Ctrl-Alt-I shortcut for the excellent "Find Action..." popup that exists in other KDE apps?

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Invoke Spectacle
2. Press Alt-S (to invoke Save button)

OBSERVED RESULT

Nothing happens.

EXPECTED RESULT

Should invoke Save as if clicking on the button.

My suggestion is that the common usability behavior be restored/reimplemented and that the shortcuts exist among other keyboard shortcuts.

Seems to be a more general issue in our qqc2-desktop-style.
Comment 2 Michael 2024-03-31 20:49:08 UTC
This appears to be largely fixed in KF6. Closing.
