Tooltips are an additional way to access quickly more information without clicking on items, but they can be very intrusive and non-intuitive in some cases :

1) For example, If I want to enable tooltips only on Desktop and disable them everywhere, it cannot be done because tooltips in System Tray items, Kickoff, Pager, Minimize All... are automatically enabled with global tooltips settings which is needed for Desktop tooltips.

2) If I want to enable thumbnails (preview and selection) only for grouped items in Task Manager while disabling tooltips everywhere, it cannot be done.

It would be great to have an option in Plasma settings where we can check the activation/deactivation of tooltips in each used widgets (which doesn't have its own tooltips settings), because some tooltips really have no meaning and bring no additional/new information to user like the one for Kickoff, Minimize All, Calendar, Keyboard layout.

I'm afraid this would be super duper over-configurability, sorry.

The previews in the Task Manager are already independent from the global tooltip setting since they're not really tooltips, they're interactive previews.

For me, when I disable tooltips in "General Behavior" page, the previews of Task Manager stop working.

Darn, can confirm. I could have sworn that was working. Can you submit a new bug report about this specifically?
