Summary: Missing content in image Spectacle saves for rectangular area screenshot when screen/monitor scaling used

Status: RESOLVED FIXED

Description Jure Repinc 2023-04-01 15:48:00 UTC
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set scaling of a monitor/screen to 200%
2. Press PrintScreen keyboard key to open Spectacle
3. Make a new rectangular screenshot
4. See that preview of screenshot is what you selected
5 Save screenshot into a file or paste into image editing application

OBSERVED RESULT
The saved/pasted image does not contain all the image from the screenshot preview in Spectacle. It looks like when screen scaling is 200% it only has the upper left one fourth of the screenshotted area (so only one half of width and hight of it)

EXPECTED RESULT
The saved/pasted image should contain the entire screenshot area selected and previewed in Spectacle

Can you confirm that you're really using the unreleased QML version of Spectacle? Or the released 22.12 version? I ask because I cannot reproduce the issue with the latest tip of the release/23.04 branch and an identical setup (Wayland, 200% scaling). However I could reproduce this issue a few weeks ago, but it was later fixed with https://invent.kde.org/graphics/spectacle/-/commit/460c8857417434d396783400cc9b5755c3a05a78 which is on the release/23.04 branch. So I wonder if the problem will go away if you rebuild Spectacle from the latest state of the release/23.04 branch. Can you try that?

Tried with updated packages, version 23.03.90, and indeed it is fixed in this new version
