In many situations currently the Windows implementation of ADSL or Cable connections use the windows dialer (at least in Israel). For Linux the ISP supplies a script for connection in Linux which the user must run as root mess with secrets files ip-up etc.

I think that KPPP should support connection with tunneling with the program pp2p. The program will then "dial" (i.e. make a connection) to ISP but there will be no dialing at all.

Currently KPPP is /dev/modem centric. Many of the tabs/options are for setting the (real) modem options. If KPPP will adopt my suggestion then the interface should be more generic with dialogs/plugins to set hardware. This way KPPP will more open to changing the actual implementation of the connection without changing the user interface at all.

In the case of cables/ADSL the hardware is actually the network card.

If digikam is started from device notifier, it is segfolted with this string in a messages log:

This project is unfortunately no longer maintained.

If a new maintainer wants to step up and take care, the project is archived here:

https://invent.kde.org/unmaintained/kppp

You can just clone it in your private namespace on invent.kde.org and if you have started to work on it and fixed/implemented something get it reviewed and the project unarchived.
