Description Riccardo Robecchi 2023-03-24 09:20:52 UTC
SUMMARY
Some tasks are randomly highlighted (so the icons appear lighter) as if the mouse were hovering on them, even though it is not. This appears to happen entirely randomly, with some tasks being highlighted even if the mouse didn't even come close to them. I haven't been able to find a way to reliably reproduce this, but it happens constantly and on multiple machines. The only way for this to stop is to actually hover the cursor on the task and then move it away.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. ?

OBSERVED RESULT
Some tasks are randomly highlighted as if the mouse were hovering on them.

EXPECTED RESULT
Tasks are only highlighted when the mouse is actually hovering on them.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: KDE neon
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.104.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8

Weird. Are you sure the tasks aren't just minimized? Are you using X11 or Wayland? Does it happen on both?
Comment 2 Riccardo Robecchi 2023-04-06 08:22:18 UTC
Yes, they are not minimised. If I move the mouse over the icon, the effect disappears. I am using X11, I haven't tested Wayland (last time I checked, it didn't work at all, so I don't even bother trying to use it any more).

How strange.

For testing purposes, can you try to reproduce it in the Wayland session though?

I've just tested Wayland again, and it seems I still can't use it. While it does load and shows me the desktop, text input does not work in any application, which means I can't use the Wayland session to test this bug, as it appears randomly and often after I have been using the computer for a while interacting with various windows.

That's odd. If you haven't already, can you submit bug report on it? It you have, can you link me to it?

In that bug report, can you mention whether you have IBus active, or whether you had it active in the past and disabled it?

Sorry it took a very long while, I opened bug 474606.

Is this still happening in Plasma 6.3's X11 session?

I haven't seen it since upgrading to Plasma 6.3.x, so I'm marking this as fixed - in the event I see it happen again, I will reopen the report. In the meantime, thanks to everyone involved in fixing this and happy Easter!
