SUMMARY

I add text in the image editor via decorate and when I select "Save changes" it creates a new file each time which I then have to rename again. I want to save the changes in the file that is open in the editor.

A file - Originalname_vx.xyz is created each time

This is the default behavior. The versioning is enabled in Image Editor Settings. Just go to Setup/Image Editor and turn off this feature:

Thanks for the quick answer, I would never have found that.
