New screenshot tools under select region seem a little too transparent. Against a dark background, they are harder to make out what the buttons do. I wanted to suggest using background blur for these controls. This should make them easier to parse at a glance.

I tend to agree. I think we should either reduce the degree of transparency or add blur.

On bright screen contents the controls are completely invisible, on dark ones the buttons are hard to see if the background contains too much contrast (see attached pictures).

Reducing the transparency significantly and blurring the background instead would indeed be the better option IMHO.

Johannes, based on the screenshots, it appears you're suffering from Bug 469022, which is the root cause of your issue. that's a separate thing from what Andres is describing here.
