SUMMARY
I have a default desktop and an 'Activities' desktop. I've elected to put only Plasma widgets on the 2nd 'Activities' desktop. The 'Dictonary' widget refuses to allow resizing so as to stop its overlap on other widgets. Also, when a word is looked up, it's text typically uses only 1/2 of the widget window space,

Works for me with git master and plasma 5.18.8 is no longer supported. I strongly recommend upgrading to at least Plasma 5.24 via Kubuntu 22.04.

I appreciate the info. Might you know if upgrading as you suggest imposes a further performance hit? I've already noticed using the KDE / Plasma environment, things are decidedly more sluggish than the MATE/Gnome desktop...

I'm afraid the answer to that question isn't knowable. You'll have to give it a try for yourself.

I will say that in general, using old software versions will not guarantee better performance because newer versions often include performance improvements.

If you've got performance issues, please submit detailed bug reports.
