This function is already included in digiKam. For Mime types that are included in digiKam by default, you can simply add them to the corresponding fields in the digiKam setup under View-> Mime types or ignore them by prefixing them with a "-" character. So in your example "-gif -ico". https://docs.digikam.org/en/setup_application/views_settings.html#mime-types-settings Maik I thought of the Mime type as a normalization reserving a file extension for a program to allow it to be opened on a single click.
