SUMMERY
The selected area in the preview differs from the scanned area.  The lower the selected area is, the bigger the difference is. This behavior could be seen in chapter 3 of the documentation of Skanlite. In the section "Scanning" the head of the selected stick figure is cut of in the "preview before saving" while it was selected right in  the preview.
It has been the same with three Brother MFC devices  (MFC-3770CDW, MFC-7820N, MFC-L2720DW), all connected via network.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Do a preview scan
2. Select area
3. Do the scan

OBSERVED RESULT
The scanned area is much lower then the selected, the scanned area is slightly longer

EXPECTED RESULT
The scanned area should have the same  position and size as the selected area.
