Created attachment 155310 [details] Splitters (unopened, Fusion style) SUMMARY Since the new, Kate-based KWrite, there are splitter handles near each side of the window. They are more visible with certain styles, such as Fusion, Plastique or Cleanlooks than with Breeze, but they are there with Breeze too (you can see the mouse cursor change by moving the mouse to the right place). See the attached screenshot. They can be moved to reveal... empty areas with no apparent functionality. NOTE I guess you didn't disable the sidebar code from Kate, but there are no sidebars.
